ASCOT International School : Bangkok, Thailand

AIS provides healthy snacks and lunches for all its students.  We recognise that school meals provide an opportunity to encourage pupils to eat more fruit and vegetables, and to develop a taste for a variety of foods.  The meals are carefully planned by our fully qualified chef, Khun Wiroj and served to pupils three times throughout the day.  This ensures the pupils eat regularly which provides enough energy for growth and development.

The National Healthy School Standard (NHSS) from the DfES and the Department of Health (UK) provide the foundation for the AIS menu to ensure a healthy, balanced diet is provided.

The location of the school and its student population has also had an influence on the school menu.  Both western and Thai dishes are served to students and there are alternatives for pupils who have special dietary requirements or allergies. Presently our school campus is  a “Peanut - Free Zone” and peanuts are not served in any of our meals.

Chilled water, orange juice and milk are available to pupils all day on a self serve basis to allow for pupil choice.

Staff who supervise meal times encourage the use of appropriate table manners and independence.  Dining room rules are also displayed in eating areas to reinforce appropriate behaviour.
