Welcome to Ascot International School Music Department. At present, the department is comprised of the following areas:
1. General Music
2. Instrumental music
3. Special Events and Performances
General Classroom Music
Students from Reception – Year Six receive one period of classroom music instruction each week. In Nursery and Kindergarten music instruction is divided into 2 twenty minute session each week. Emphasis in class music is on singing, movement, listening, and the rudiments of music.
In Year Two, students are introduced to recorder playing. This is developed through to Year 6.
Additionally, students are encouraged to participate in the choral program from Year 3 upwards, rehearsing for one period per week during the school week. Public and school performances are given throughout the school year.
Instrumental Music Programme
The Instrumental Music Programme is open to all students from Reception to Year 6. At present, lessons are available for piano, guitar, violin and flute. Lessons on other instruments are available if students can provide their own instrument. Students attend one 40 minute lesson per week on a rota basis. Students have the opportunity to display their talents during Music Week in Term One.
Special Events and Performances
The Music Department in collaboration with the Drama Department produce two major performances throughout the school year. These usually involve a school musical and a Christmas item. In addition, performances at pubic venues such as hospitals are also given at intervals during the school year.
