Key Stage Two
Throughout Key Stage Two, pupils continue to follow a broad and balanced curriculum based on the National Curriculum for England. All activities are designed to deliver the Programmes of Study whilst fostering an enthusiasm for learning.
The English National Literacy Strategy forms the basis for the daily Literacy lessons, providing a stimulating and systematic approach to the teaching of speaking and listening, reading and writing.
The English National Numeracy Strategy provides a clear and structured focus for our teaching of Numeracy. We place a great deal of emphasis on the formal teaching of mental strategies and the ability to use them for problem solving.
In addition to the daily Literacy and Numeracy lessons, all children in Key Stage Two enjoy full Humanities and Science programmes based on the QCA Units of Work (English National Curriculum) including Science, Art, Geography, History, Design Technology, ICT, Drama and PHSE (Personal, Health, Social and Environmental Education).
Furthermore, all children in Key Stage Two follow our MFL programme (Modern Foreign Language: Mandarin), enjoy PE (Physical Education), Swimming, Thai Culture and Thai Language, Music and Drama. All of these subjects are taught by specialist teachers.
The children from Year Three to Year Six also enjoy a variety of Extra Curricular Activities and all take part in a Residential Visit during Term Two or Term Three.
All assessment is ongoing and formative. However, at the end of Key Stage Two all children sit the National Curriculum Tests (NCTs) as prescribed by the National Curriculum for England. These tests in English (Reading Comprehension, Writing, Spelling and Handwriting), Science and Mathematics provide a summative assessment of the children’s progress at the end of this Key Stage as well as a base line for their ongoing progress into Key Stage Three.
